Job Summary

The School Security Officer is responsible for safeguarding the physical security of school facilities, students, staff, and visitors. This position requires a strong commitment to safety, the ability to respond effectively to emergencies, and excellent communication skills.

 

Essential Duties

               

  1. Patrol school grounds and buildings regularly to ensure safety.
  2. Monitor access points to the school.
  3. Conduct security checks of classrooms, offices, and other areas.
  4. Report any suspicious activity or security breaches.
  5. Respond promptly to emergencies, such as active shooter situations, medical emergencies, or natural disasters.
  6. Follow established emergency procedures and protocols.
  7. Coordinate with law enforcement and other emergency responders as needed.
  8. Conduct safety training and drills for students and staff.
  9. Promote a culture of safety and awareness within the school community.
  10. Greet and screen visitors to the school.
  11. Ensure that visitors comply with school policies and procedures.
  12. De-escalate conflicts and disputes that may arise.
  13. Resolve issues peacefully and effectively.
  14. Maintain open and effective communication with school administrators, staff, students, and parents.
  15. Report incidents and concerns to appropriate personnel.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and meet the minimum qualifications including, high school diploma or equivalent and a valid driver's license.
